Last summer, Olive my new olive-coloured bike came into my life and brought back some fond memories. As a child I was amazed by the fact I could ride a bike and still I am still proud of myself for staying up on those two wheels. But what is more exciting than still being able to ride my bike, is my new found joy for what I can do to give it the old TP treatment! From the moment I got Olive I have been fantasizing about what I can bedazzle to make it more ‘me’ and what elements of storage I can add to carry the treasures I might collect along the way. Nothing says urban utilitarian quite like a bike with TWO baskets! Since partnering with Krylon spray paint I am always looking for ways to personalize and spray something into a newly coloured dream! Since, May is bicycle month, I figured that I would take this time to accessorize Olive and try out some of my favorite Krylon colours by spraying out my bike baskets and adding my initials. What I created was a dream come true.
So here’s what you’ll need:
- A bike basket (or two) of your choosing
- Letters, wood or metal are fine (the lighter the better)
- Spray paint (I used Krylon’s Chalky Finish in Morning Sky and Waterfall as well as Krylon’s ColorMaster™ in Ballet Slipper in a satin finish
- Strong adhesive like a hot glue gun or E6000
Once you’ve got all your materials together, simply clean your baskets and get spraying. Be sure to follow the instruction on the can. The longer you shake the can the better.
I originally wanted my initials to be metallic, but I decided in the end that the chalky waterfall (turquoise) finish would look the best & pop against the pink! I added glitter to the chalky finish spray paint when it was still wet and let it dry undisturbed.
Once all your individual pieces have dried glue the letters to your bike basket and VOILA!
It is amazing what a little time and colour can do for your life and your bike style. Seriously, a game changer!
